First, I will like us to observe a minute silent for all members/associates who started this journey with us but we loss them to cold hands of death.
May their Soul Rest in Peace (Amen).
Indeed they say nothing lasts forever, but our legacies through most of our motions and bills will last till eternity. To God be the glory, It has been a memorable journey of four years through which we encountered the good, the bad and the ugly, sacrificed so much to see that our beloved state progressively move forward.
Despite the financial instability we were able to contribute positively to the growth of the state, we raised the bar of representation from the usual “Man must wack approach” to a more globally acceptable standard of a democratic approach.
This wouldn’t have been possible without the respect for the “rule of law”. I hereby commend the all time youngest and resourceful Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello for respecting the Principles of Separation of power and creating a very strong synergy between the Executive and the Legislative arm. The collaboration of both arm has birthed a peaceful coexistence and further strengthen our laws.
It is fundamental to note that, as we exchange batton today to the new elected members. They now have that responsibility to be greater than us and the people who came before us. They have a responsibility to be, not as good as us, or live up to our examples, but to actually surpass us, even when it seems scary. They have to overcome that fear and be greater than both the 5th and 6th Assembly.
I don’t know what your future is, but if you’re all willing to take the harder way, the more complicated ones, the one with more failures at first than successes, then you will not regret it.
However, I am using this medium to appreciate each and everyone of us. Despite the ups and downs we all lived peacefully in unity as one indivisible entity. Tribal/Ethnic sentiment couldn’t break us.
We should also be thankful to our families, most especially our wives. These past four years have presented us with a lot of trying times and it is good to know that we had our loved ones in our corner, supporting us along the way.
A very big thank you to all our constituents for finding us worthy to jealously protect their interest for the past four year. God will continue to bless all the staffs of this Assembly and our Aides. Thank you for your unrelenting support.
Saying goodbye feels hard, for sure, but I am confident that it is a door through which we walk to bring us to another good chapter in our political journey..
Indeed it is time to say, GOODBYE!
Thanks and God bless!
