A major contender of the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket in Kogi State, Prince Mohammed Audu, has dissociated himself from reports calling for an impartial caretaker committee to oversee the governorship primary.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Prince Audu said the reports were sponsored to impugn his person and create confusion in the party.

He acknowledged the existence of two factional executives of the party in Kogi state but insisted that the leadership that ensured his late father’s victory in 2015 remains the authentic APC executive.

“My attention has been drawn to reports alleging that I called for a caretaker party committee to oversee the governorship primary. This is totally untrue and an attempt to misrepresent me.

“The true and original members of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi state know the truth and I stand by the truth. I stand firmly with the executive that was duly and legitimately elected under the leadership of my late father, Prince Abubakar Audu. Same leadership was re-elected by party members to ensure continued success of the party.

“Kogi electorate have shown repeatedly that they have confidence in the All Progressives Congress and the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari and that has not changed. I am committed to the ideals and ideologies of our great party.

“The Audu political family is intact and is committed to making Kogi great, as was promised in 2015,” he said.

The governorship hopeful expressed confidence in the ability of the party leadership at the national level to make informed decisions on issues relating to Kogi state.
